CompuTrak Setup

All users must have a login name and password when logging into your computer (password is not optional).
Install CompuTrak with the DVD.
If you have SQLExpress installed then click Launch not install when asked.
After installing, CompuTrak must restart, this does not restart your computer.
Date Requirements:
Computer System Short Date must be a 2 digit year.
English(Canadian) or English(United States)
English(United States) requires the short date to be m/d/yy
English(Canadian) requires the short date to be d/m/yy

Other Requirements:
Microsoft Office 2003 or later. (MsExcel on all stations and MsWord to print logbooks)

Be sure to view the Administrator video after you login. (Under employees click the red button to the right of Administrator)
The red buttons are all videos.

if you are installing on a Server then:
Install Management Studio Express

Run SQL Server Configuration Manager on the server:
Copy the CompuTrakData folder from the workstation to your server and share it (full control).
    a.    Set network configuration protocols. (Shared Memory, Named Pipes & TCP/IP must be enabled)
    b.   Change browser to automatic.
    c.    Restart SQL Server and exit SQL Server Configuration Manager.

Run SQL Server Management Studio Express:
a.  Attach the database on the server and rename to remove any path info. (The name must be COMPUTRAKDB.MDF)
b.  Set permissions. (Update, Select, Insert, Execute, Delete, Create procedure, Create function, Create table, Connect &  Alter schema must be
checked)

Share CompuTrakData on your server.
 

Setup Workstations:

    Install CompuTrak from the DVD for each user on each computer. Login as the user, Not Administrator. Each user must be installed. (Administrator rights are not required to install CompuTrak) .   Delete the Training Setup shortcut from the desktop.

   Delete database and two folders named Files & Templates in C:\CompuTrakData. Do not delete the training folder from any workstation. (when a training video is  requested, it checks C:\CompuTrakData\Training first then the server and if not found looks on the internet.)
 Modify the connection string (My Documents\computraktemp) to access the database on the server on each work station. 
Open computraktemp with notepad from the users My Documents.
Uncheck format/wordwrap if checked in notepad.
Copy and replace with this:

Now Change MYSERVER to the name of your server.

Close notepad with the X, say yes to save. DONOT do a file save, it will add .txt
computraktemp has no extension.
   
How to Video

After a workstation is complete click help / about and change the Templates and Training Files path to the server.
